Here at Fauxtrack we wanted to settle once and for all the mystery of who is the real Robert Cheruiyot and why does he have so many doppelgangers? The answer, it turns out, may surprise you. Coincidently (or maybe not), there are currently three (3!) Kenyan marathon runners who are named Robert Cheruiyot, and they’re all ludicrously (not to be confused with the American rapper, Ludacris) fast at covering 26.2 miles. This article is devoted to debunking the Cheruiyot scandal, giving each their deserved recognition, and praising how ludricrously (not Ludacris) fast they run. It will never be known why naming your child 'Robert Cheruiyot' guarantees that he will be faster than his classmates, but there is scientific evidence (meaning that there isn’t any scientific evidence whatsoever) that doing so will improve his cardiovascular (blood) and respiratory (lungs) capabilities.
Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot
The most famous of the three, Kipkoech is best known for his domination at the Boston Marathon. A four-time winner of that event, he boasts a personal best time of 2:07:14. His athletic achievements are all the more impressive considering he used to be a heavy smoker (smoking up to a little less than a billion packs a day) (but seriously, he was a smoker). Presumably, to make things easier on his fans he recently converted to Islam and changed his name to Omar Ahmed. Thanks, but no thanks. Cool name and all, but here at Fauxtrack we prefer Robert Cheruiyot.
Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot
This young gun has recently exploded onto the world scene with his latest win at the 2010 Boston Marathon. But wait, I thought that was the other Robert Cheruiyot? Well, you’re wrong. It was Kiprono!!! And he broke the course record in a time of 2:05:53. Though young, he has never placed worse than fifth in a major marathon competition. He’s got racing savvy, good looks, and a name that has some pretty big shoes to fill (probably about size 9 or 10). Make sure to remember Robert Kiprono as he seems to be the rising star of the Cheruiyot legacy.
Robert Kiprotich Cheruiyot
The oldest and slowest (but still silly quick) of the three, Kiprotich saw his glory days in the early 2000s. However, as the founder and trailblazer of the Robert Cheruiyot name he is, in Fauxtrack’s opinion, pretty friggin cool.
This has been the first of many posts brought to you by HudsyBear. Sweet dreams.
We here at FauxTrack had a great time providing coverage of the Heps. We're glad so many people enjoyed it, all the positive feedback really made it worthwhile for us. Here are the links for Day 2 coverage:
Later in the week we will hopefully have the races split up and put in our "Videos" section, but bear with us as we're in the midst of finals period at school. As for future plans for live coverage, we're going to look into covering IC4A's but at this point we're not sure what's gonna happen with that.
First of all I would like to thank everyone for watching today's coverage. We had a lot of fun doing it and we hope you had as much fun watching. All of today's coverage was recorded and is available to watch here:
We will work on getting the coverage cut into individual races but for now it's in 2 hour chunks which you can seek through easily. (Note on Segment 2: I think the recording unexpectedly cut out right before one of the heats of the women's 400 trials, sorry!).Also, we weren't able to get as much of the field events down at field level as we had hoped. We did get the finals of the men's hammer and will have that video up as soon as we can. Unfortunately, we all have a bunch of papers that are due soon that we've been putting off getting ready for this weekend and actually being out there today (we did almost 8 full hours of coverage!) so stuff probably won't get done until Monday or Tuesday.
We will have live coverage of the meet all day tomorrow starting at noon with the women's 5k. Our coverage tomorrow is dedicated to all the mothers out there. Happy Mother's Day from Team Faux!
You read it correctly, FauxTrack is going to be hosting a live video feed of Heps. Click the "HEPS LIVE!" link up in the menu bar to tune in.
We're only going to have live coverage of the running events at Weaver Stadium this weekend but we're also going to try to capture as much of the field events as we can. We'll post that stuff in the "Videos" section when we get the time, hopefully by the evening of when it takes place. Coverage starts at noon!
BOOM! First post, baby! This is pretty exciting. It seems like only yesterday we were chillin' in what is now FauxTrack headquarters (the locker room showers) brainstorming about what this would eventually become. And now three weeks later, after a few more board meetings and hours of web programming, we're finally here.
So what is FauxTrack? The truth is, we're not 100% sure yet. I'd broadly describe it as a "light-hearted running blog." But what does that even mean? Our main focus is not necessarily track itself but the culture that surrounds it--the non-running side of running. At the same time, we're runners and get excited about people running fast times and whatnot, so we'll cover that too. As runners, we're just different people than the rest of 'em and this world that we're in, both on and off the track, is an interesting place.
Team Faux is comprised of a handful of college runners, a few still competing and the others are washed up. Although we're currently all on the east coast we come from all over the country. We all gotz a different flava. Therefore, here at Faux you're gonna get a random sampling from various aspects of the track world and our lives. We're going to do some combination of giving opinions on interesting/relevant track news, poking fun at people like LaShawn Merritt for taking ExtenZe, and talking about sweet races.
We're also going to post videos of stuff. What kind of stuff, you might ask? Perhaps funny interviews, a race here or there, heck maybe even get live feeds of some sweet meets. We'll also probably just make stupid videos that have nothing to do with track and post those too, but whatever. The truth is, there's really no telling what's gonna be going on at FauxTrack, we'll all just have to wait and see.
